DominicanToday.com - The Institutionalism and Justice Foundation (Finjus) yesterday called the Police deception of the media and society when it presented two to police agents as repented thugs ”shameful.”
The row comes in the wake of the National Police’s admission that in a gathering hosted by colonel Andres Felix Fernandez, head of the Conflict Groups Management Section, two policemen were posing as regenerated gang members.
The journalist Nuria Piera unleashed the scandal, on which Finjus president Servio Tulio Castaños Guzmán said a police reform is now more urgent than ever.
In a statement Finjus said the situation should serve to evaluate the National Police’s constant appearances in the press and the credibility of its information which cannot validly sustain before a court.
It said a deep police reform is urgent and warned that the time has come for the Presidency to take action, so the Police is submitted to the reign of the law and under the guideline of the Justice Ministry. It said the turn which the Police institutional crisis takes is alarming. “It’s a regretful fact because Dominican society needs a police agency which is credible, efficient, respectful of the fundamental rights and which is under the effective controls of the civil power.”
