A Leeds couple who went on a luxury all-inclusive Caribbean holiday to celebrate their first wedding anniversary are taking legal action against tour operator First Choice after their romantic getaway turned into a "nightmare hospital ordeal".
In August last year Lee Wigley, 29, was put on a drip for dehydration after experiencing severe sickness and painful diarrhoea and was later diagnosed by local doctors with a bowel infection.
Mr Wigley and his 26-year-old wife Sarah, who also suffered from stomach cramps, abdominal pains and diarrhoea, was staying at the four star Gran Ventana Beach Resort Hotel in the Dominican Republic.
The couple have now instructed travel litigation experts from law firm Irwin Mitchell to take legal action.
Mr Wigley said: "It was an awful experience on our holiday; we were hoping for a nice relaxing break for our first anniversary but we didn't have a chance to do anything special to celebrate and are both gutted that we missed the chance to mark what was to be one of the most memorable days in our relationship."
