DominicanToday.com - Hacienda minister Vicente Bengoa yesterday said the trafficking with fuels involving the power company Itabo and Cemex Dominicana reveal that the corruption is a generalized problem in Dominican society.
The official revealed that the government has also learned of other fuel smuggling which involves the private sector. “Actions of that nature are obviously bad and now who are involved are representatives of the private sector, that is to say, so that you see that this issue of corruption is a generalized problem of Dominican society and this, of course, concerns us all.”
He said the government has received denunciations from that sector that smuggled fuel is entering the country, but didn’t enter into specifics.
Bengoa said the companies in the fuels business have expressed their concern to the authorities, since those fraudulent imports jeopardize them.
He the situation, which also concerns the authorities, will be dealt with in a meeting of the Cabinet today. “Naturally this is of concern to us all and tomorrow (Thursday) we’re going to analyze all the legal aspects and everything on this topic, and investigate if there are problems of other types also.” |
