Government corruption no longer astonishes Dominicans
DominicanToday.com - The executive director of the civic movement Citizen Participation (PC) is concerned with what he calls the people’s blasé attitude with the constant acts of corruption involving officials in the various branches of Government.

Javier Cabreja said the countries with a true democracy deal drastically against those who misuse taxpayer money. “The problem is that corruption scandals aren’t spurring any reaction in the country and many indicate that the capacity for astonishment has been lost.”

In a phone interview with Huchi Lora on CDN Radio, Cabreja cited the Dominican legislators among corruption cases, who get numerous “perks” from the Government.

“Here we grossly surpass the things which occur in other countries and we see how senators are getting numerous funds for political cronyism and their own campaign, and that’s the type of thing which the nation must see as distorted,” he said, adding that the number of luxury vehicles which arrive through the exemptions given to the lawmakers are practices which should be condemned.
