DominicanToday.com - Santiago Police Antinarcotics Unit commander colonel Franklin A. Peralta was arrested on Saturday for links to drug shakedowns in the town Licey al Medio together with 13 others, including a police sergeant and a corporal.
Santiago Prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso, interviewed by newspaper Listin Sunday night, said she’ll today request one year of temporary incarceration against the detainees and to declare the case complex.
This investigation spurred the presence of Police chief Jose Polanco and Drugs Control Agency (DNCD) president Rolando Rosado n the operation, said Police spokesman Nelson Rosario, who added that guns, a boat, luxury vehicles and cash were seized.
Sergeant Jerez Polanco and corporal Nicanor Estévez were identified as the agents arrested the case, in addition to two others as yet identified.
The arrests were announced after a meeting of several of hours in Santiago’s San Luis headquarters, in which regional commander Juan Ramon de la Cruz Martinez also participated.
Among the detainees is a Licey gas station employee.
A source said accompanying Peralta were three ex police agents, allegedly involved in the murder of a lieutenant nicknamed Cabrerita, killed several years ago in a gasoline station on the avenue Estrella Sadhalá in Santiago. |
